Basu Abstract The redshift of the gamma ray burst (GRB) GRB 011211 has been determined as 2.14 from several absorption lines seen in the spectrum of its optical afterglow. The spectrum of its X-ray afterglow exhibited several emission lines, and their identification led to a mean redshift 1.862. A supernova model has been proposed based on the redshift of the GRB as 2.141. It is shown here that the redshift interpretation cannot explain the observed spectra, as some serious inconsistencies exist in the process of redshift determinations in spectra of both optical and X-ray afterglows. In view of that, an alternative interpretation of the spectra is presented in terms of blueshifts. Ejection mechanism is proposed as a possible scenario to explain the blueshifted spectrum.

Soft X - ray emission lines in the afterglow spectrum of GRB 011211 : - a detailed XMM - Newton analysis
We report on an XMM-Newton observation of the X-ray afterglow of the Gamma Ray Burst GRB 011211, originally detected by Beppo-SAX on 11th December 2001. The early afterglow spectrum obtained by XMM-Newton, observed 11 hours after the initial burst, appeared to reveal decaying H-like Kα emission lines of Mg, Si, S, Ar and Ca, arising in enriched material with an outflow velocity of order 0.1c (R...
متن کاملReconsidering the origin of the X–ray emission lines in GRB 011211
We reanalyze the XMM–Newton data of GRB 011211 showing that the spectral features, interpreted by Reeves et al. (2002, 2003) as due thermal emission from a collisionally ionized plasma, can be also reproduced by a reflection model (with ionization parameter ξ ∼ 10). We discuss the implications of this interpretation, estimating the total mass required in the simplified case of a funnel geometry...
متن کاملPreviously Claimed(/Unclaimed) X-ray Emission Lines in High Resolution Afterglow Spectra
We review the significance determination for emission lines in the Chandra HETGS spectrum for GRB 020813, and we report on a search for additional lines in high resolution Chandra spectra. No previously unclaimed features are found. We also discuss the significance of lines sets reportedly discovered using XMM data for GRB 011211 and GRB 030227. We find that these features are likely of modest,...

We report the discovery of the afterglow of the X-ray rich, long-duration gamma-ray burst GRB 011211 and present evidence for oscillatory behaviour in its early optical light curve. The time-scale of the fluctuations, ∼1 hour, is much smaller than the time of the observations, ∼12 hours from the onset of the gamma-ray burst. The character and strength of the fluctuations are unprecedented and a...
متن کاملA systematic analysis of X-ray afterglows of gamma-ray burst observed by XMM-Newton
This work is part of a systematic re-analysis program of all the data of GammaRay Burst (GRB) X-ray afterglows observed so far, in order to constrain the GRB models. We present here a systematic analysis of those afterglows observed by XMMNewton between January 2000 and March 2004. This dataset includes GRB 011211 and GRB 030329. We have obtained spectra, light curves and colors for these after...
